Research Interests
Dr Thomas leads and contributes to multi-disciplinary projects that quantify the prevalence, risk factors, and long-term consequences of child maltreatment and bullying victimisation. She employs large national surveys, longitudinal birth cohorts, and advanced statistical modelling to inform public health policy and prevention strategies.
Her recent work has expanded into the emerging area of climate anxiety among Australian adolescents, examining its functional impacts and implications for mental health service delivery.
Recent Publication Trends
Across 2023–2024, Dr Thomas has co-authored more than 20 peer-reviewed outputs centred on the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS). These publications delineate national prevalence rates of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, neglect, and exposure to domestic violence, and link these exposures to mental disorders, health-risk behaviours, and service utilisation patterns.
Parallel work synthesises evidence on bullying and cyberbullying, integrating ecological and psychological frameworks and evaluating economic costs and preventive interventions.
Contact & Collaboration
Dr Thomas is based at the Park Centre for Mental Health Treatment, Research and Education in Wacol, Queensland, and actively collaborates with national and international consortia focused on child protection and adolescent mental health.
