Hannah Murphy is a Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History at King's College London and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow. She leads the Centre for Early Modern Studies and co-leads the Wellcome Trust-funded 'Renaissance Skin' project. Her research focuses on the intersection of medicine, race, and knowledge systems in early modern Europe.
She holds a BA from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from UC Berkeley (as a Fulbright Scholar). Her work explores topics like early modern medical practitioners, racial categorization in medical texts, and calligraphic practices.
Recent research includes the project 'Medicine and the Making of Race, 1440-1720' and publications on sixteenth-century medical texts, calligraphy manuals, and the history of medical decision-making.
