Hannah Grace Caldwell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Science, specifically within The August Krogh Section for Human Physiology. She completed her PhD at the University of Copenhagen in 2023 with a dissertation on substrate utilization in the brain and skeletal muscle during environmental and energetic stress.
Dr. Caldwell's research focuses on the physiological responses to various stressors including low energy availability, hypoxia, and high-altitude exposure. Her work spans exercise physiology, sports nutrition, cerebral blood flow regulation, and redox biology, with particular emphasis on female athletes and clinical applications for respiratory conditions. Her research integrates both laboratory and real-world field settings to investigate human adaptation to challenging environments.
Her recent publications reveal a research program centered on energy metabolism in athletic populations, neurovascular responses to environmental stressors, and methodological innovations for field-based health and performance research. Dr. Caldwell's work has been published in high-impact journals including Sports Medicine, Acta Physiologica, Redox Biology, and Journal of Physiology.
Dr. Caldwell's research has gained significant attention beyond academic circles, being featured in 22 news outlets, blogged about by 3 sources, and widely shared on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Reddit. Her publications have attracted substantial academic interest with multiple papers garnering dozens of Mendeley readers.
She maintains an active collaborative network with researchers across multiple countries, working with prominent scientists in exercise physiology and human performance. Her ORCID identifier is 0000-0001-6072-7277 and she can be contacted at hannahcaldwell@nexs.ku.dk for research collaboration or academic inquiries.
