Hannah Frydman is an Assistant Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures at Harvard University, specializing in modern French cultural history with a focus on textuality and sexuality. Her office is located in Boylston Hall 427, and she holds office hours via Zoom and in-person.
Education:
- B.A. in History and French Studies from Smith College (2012)
- Ph.D. in History from Rutgers University–New Brunswick (2020)
Research Interests include 19th- and 20th-century French history, gender and sexuality studies, queer studies, print culture, and the history of reading. Her work examines intersections between media, morality, and social control in the French Third Republic.
Recent Publications analyze historical contexts of classified advertising, gendered labor, and queer print cultures, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to media history, gender politics, and capitalist structures.
