Dr. Hannah Burgess is a Visiting Senior Lecturer at the School of Biosciences, University of Surrey, specializing in the Section of Virology. Her research focuses on the intersection of mRNA metabolism and virus infection, particularly exploring how viral and host factors influence mRNA processes during infections like HCMV and coronaviruses. She holds affiliations with the Microbiology Society and Biochemical Society.
Education:
- BSc in Genetics, University of Nottingham
- PhD in Human Genetics at MRC Human Genetics Unit (Edinburgh), supervised by Nicola Gray
Research Highlights:
- Investigates host RNA decay pathways in HCMV infection and dsRNA regulation in herpesviruses
- Explores viral manipulation of cellular translation machinery under stress conditions
- Collaborates with Angus Wilson at NYU School of Medicine
Publications:
- Showcase interdisciplinary work on viral RNA regulation, antiviral strategies, and host-pathogen interactions
- Includes studies on SARS-CoV-2, HCMV, vaccinia virus, and coronaviruses
Labs/Teams: Active in the Virology Section at Surrey, focusing on translational research in viral RNA biology.
