Hanna Morichetto

Hanna Morichetto is an architectural researcher affiliated with Chalmers University of Technology's Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, specializing in Building Design. Her work explores the intersection of residential architecture and human wellbeing, with particular focus on how home environments can function as enriched environments that promote cognitive stimulation and stress reduction.

Her educational journey culminated in the successful defense of her doctoral thesis "Residential Architecture and Enriched Environments" on December 6, 2019, at Chalmers University of Technology. This followed the completion of her licentiate thesis "Bostad, atmosfär och välbefinnande: Mot en ökad förståelse kring sambanden mellan hälsa och bostadens arkitektur" in 2017.

Morichetto's research examines how specific architectural elements contribute to creating environments that positively impact mental health. Her work identifies three critical areas in residential design: Spatial extension (views, spatial complexity), Movement (rhythm, transitions between spaces), and Materials and detailing (tactile qualities, meaningful associations). These elements work together to create multisensory stimulation that can enhance cognitive performance and counteract stressors.

Her publications from 2015-2020 reveal a consistent research trajectory exploring atmosphere, wellbeing, and health connections in residential architecture. The work shows increasing sophistication from conceptual explorations of atmosphere to more structured investigations of specific architectural attributes that create enriched environments. Her research bridges architectural design with neuroscience and environmental psychology.

Morichetto conducted her research as part of the Formas-funded project "Integrative Ways of Residing: Health and Quality of Residence Architectural Inventions for Dwelling, Ageing and Healthcaring (AIDAH)" (2013-2019), collaborating with researchers from multiple disciplines to investigate how architectural design can support health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
