Hanna Merk

Dr. Hanna Merk is a Researcher at the Department of Romance Studies, University of Trier, and a Research Associate at the America Romana Center. Her work focuses on Romance linguistics, language policy, and sociolinguistics, with a regional emphasis on the French and Spanish-speaking Caribbean, particularly the Dominican Republic.

• Education: Doppelabschluss Erstes Staatsexamen für das Lehramt an Gymnasien (with distinction) and Magistra Artium in Romance Studies, University of Trier (2013).
• Research: Explores language cultivation, prescriptive/descriptive language practices, and cultural identity in Latin America. Notably examined the role of the Academias de la Lengua in Argentina and the Dominican Republic.

Key Publications: Analyzed language advice systems in Latin America (2017) and identity in Dominican bateyes (2017). Recognized with the 2017 Publication Prize by the University of Trier Graduate Center.
