Dr. Hanna Klien-Thomas is a Research Fellow at the School of Arts, Oxford Brookes University, specializing in transnational screen studies, digital ethnography, and Caribbean cultural analysis. She contributes to teaching across undergraduate programs and delivers guest lectures at the University of Vienna in media and visual anthropology.
Her research explores digital media practices in UK-based Caribbean Carnival communities, focusing on counter-hegemonic technology use and urban justice issues related to creative spaces. She actively participates in the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Network, Equality and Diversity Research Network, and Visual Studies in the Social Sciences groups.
Awarded grants for carnival digitization and creative space diversification projects, her 15+ recent publications examine digital transculturalism, postcolonial media practices, and diasporic identity formation through Bollywood reception studies and Caribbean feminist campaigns. She previously conducted ethnographic research on Cuban Hip Hop's second generation and Bollywood audiences in the Anglophone Caribbean.
