Dr. Acke's research investigates how discourse constructs social positioning through comparative frameworks and contrastive mechanisms. She examines national identity formation, religious belonging, and marginality in discourse, with special attention to Nordic contexts and German-language discourse traditions. Her methodology combines qualitative discourse analysis with interdisciplinary perspectives from linguistics, cultural studies, and political science. Recent projects explore disruption in discourse, transnational comparison practices, and the discursive representation of Nordic identity as a 'longing place.' Her work demonstrates increasing scholarly output, with 10 publications in 2024 and multiple works projected for 2025.
She has made significant contributions through conference organization and editorial work, including co-editing volumes in the 'Diskurs – interdisziplinär' series published by the Leibniz-Institut für Deutsche Sprache. Her collaborative research spans institutions in Finland, Germany, and Sweden, reflecting her commitment to international scholarly exchange in discourse studies.
Dr. Acke actively participates in academic service through conference presentations, workshop organization, and research collaborations. Recent activities include examining queer discourse negotiation, comparative analyses of political agreements across Nordic countries, and the discursive aspects of recognition as demonstrated in her work on the Hannah Arendt Prize awarded to Masha Gessen. Her scholarship contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education, reduced inequalities, and peace, justice and strong institutions.
