Hanife Topal

Dr. Hanife Topal is a Lecturer in the Department of Accounting and International Business at the University of Houston Downtown's Marilyn Davies College of Business. With over a decade of teaching experience in Houston and prior industry experience as an Export Area Sales Manager in Europe, she integrates practical insights into her instruction of Tax Accounting, Auditing, and CPA Review courses. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Economics from Anadolu University (Turkey) and a Master of Accounting (With Honors) from Rice University (2019).

Her research focuses on tax accounting, financial reporting, and emerging trends in accounting technology such as blockchain. Her scholarly work includes publications on nuclear energy policy, banking regulation frameworks (Basel II/III), and auditing standards in the Turkish insurance sector. Recent presentations at international conferences reflect her engagement with global financial challenges and energy policy debates.

Dr. Topal teaches courses including Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Individual Income Taxation, and Governmental & Non-Profit Accounting. She contributes to academic service as VITA Center Site Coordinator and Texas State Board of Public Accountancy Liaison Office Representative, while previously serving on curriculum committees.
