Hang Kyo Lim is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU). He specializes in chemical ecology and animal behavior, focusing on olfactory communication in species such as earthworms, fish, and insects. Lim holds a PhD in Entomology from the University of Kansas, an MS and BS in Biology from Seoul National University. His research explores how animals interact with their environments through chemical signals, particularly in foraging, mating, and reproduction.
Key research areas include ant-plant mutualism, pheromone communication in moths, and reproductive signaling in Cyprinid fishes like goldfish and invasive carps. Lim is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Animal Behavior Society and prioritizes student mentorship, guiding students to academic recognition. He has published extensively on topics ranging from carp pheromones to earthworm population dynamics in vermicomposting.
Outside academia, Lim enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping, which align with his passion for understanding natural systems. His work bridges ecological and behavioral studies, contributing to conservation strategies and invasive species management.
