Han van der Aa is a Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of Vienna, since February 2024. His career includes a Junior Professorship at the School of Business Informatics and Mathematics, University of Mannheim (2018–2024), and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship at Humboldt University of Berlin (2018). His academic foundation includes a PhD in Computer Science (2018) from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, supervised by Hajo Reijers and Henrik Leopold, alongside a MSc in Business Information Systems (2013) and BSc in Industrial Engineering (2010) from Eindhoven University of Technology.
His research focuses on automated methods for organizational process analysis and improvement, with publications in top-tier venues like BPM, CAiSE, ICPM, SIGMOD, and IEEE ICDE. His work spans journals such as IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering and Information Systems.
Scientific honors include the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, recognizing his contributions to databases and information systems. His current affiliation is with the University of Vienna, where he leads research in process-oriented information systems.
