معرفی
Dr. Han Chow Chua is a Lecturer in the Sydney Pharmacy School at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine and Health. He holds an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship and is affiliated with The Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation and the Charles Perkins Centre. His research focuses on ion channels, particularly ligand-gated, voltage-gated, and leak channels, with an emphasis on GABAA receptors in epilepsy and neurodevelopmental disorders.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Neuropharmacology), University of Sydney (2012-2016)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons I/Medal), University of Sydney (2008-2011)
Research Interests: Dr. Chua investigates ion channel dysfunction in neurological diseases, leveraging structural biology, pharmacology, and genetic approaches. His work spans GABAA receptor pharmacology, NALCN channel physiology, and the molecular mechanisms underlying epilepsy and hearing disorders.
Awards:
- Carlsberg Foundation Research Infrastructure Grant (2022)
- Travel Award, Biophysical Society Annual Meeting (2020)
- John A. Lamberton Research Scholarship (2013)
- University Medal (2012)
Grants & Advising: Active grants include studies on CACNA1A channelopathies and hearing-related molecular mechanisms. He advises one current PhD student, Sze Hon KAN, exploring GABAA receptor therapies in genetic epilepsies.
Labs & Teams: Member of interdisciplinary teams at the Charles Perkins Centre and the Centre for Drug Discovery Innovation, focusing on translating ion channel research into clinical applications.
