Hamish Low

Hamish Low holds the academic rank of Assistant Lecturer. He currently serves as Global Programmes Lead at New Zealand Red Cross (Rīpeka Whero Aotearoa), overseeing international humanitarian initiatives. Previously, he worked with the UN on Colombia's peace process verification and with Peace Brigades International (PBI), supporting human rights defenders in Colombia. His career also includes social assistance with St Mungo’s homelessness charity in London, mediation training with Lambeth Mediation Service, nuclear non-proliferation advocacy with PNND, and English teaching in Hiroshima, Japan.

Education: MA in Media, Peace and Conflict Studies from the UN-mandated University for Peace (UPEACE), San José, Costa Rica; BA in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He is also an alumnus of Diplo’s Humanitarian Diplomacy course.

Research interests center on peace processes, human rights protection, and the intersection of media and conflict. His professional trajectory reflects a focus on grassroots humanitarian work, diplomatic advocacy, and educational outreach in high-risk regions.
