Hamidreza Fallahi is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, concurrently serving as an Assistant Instructor in Ethnomusicology. He holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from Shiraz University and an MA in Ethnomusicology from the University of Tehran, focusing on the music of Bushehr, Iran. His research explores Persian classical music, music nationalism, and cultural dimensions of Middle Eastern and Latin American music. Fallahi actively collaborates with the Bereket Middle Eastern Ensemble, performing Khayyami music, and engages in archival work through the Ethnomusicology Archive Lab. He currently serves as the Ethnomusicology Colloquium Representative for AGEMS and teaches in the Bereket Ensemble program.

Research Interests: Fallahi’s work examines the intersection of music and identity in southern Iran, particularly through the Khayyami genre. He investigates how musical structures and texts reflect cultural and national narratives. His methodologies blend ethnographic fieldwork with formal music analysis, emphasizing the sociopolitical context of musical traditions.
