معرفی
Dr. Hamdan Hamdan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Khalifa University and a Visiting Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and the development of gene-editing therapies and transgenic animal models for neurological conditions.
Education
- PhD in Molecular Biology/Neuroscience
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Hamdan’s work addresses critical challenges in ASD diagnostics and precision medicine for the UAE population (1 in 146 births affected). His team identified seven novel genetic variants linked to neuronal functions like axon growth and synapse organization. He also investigates molecular mechanisms of axonal domains (nodes of Ranvier, AIS) in health, injury, and neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
Scientific Awards
- Prestigious Longitude Prize on Dementia semi-finalist (first in MENA region)
His lab employs advanced techniques including CRISPR/Cas9, BioID/TurboID, and in vivo electroporation to explore gene delivery and calcium-linked pathways in cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders. He supervises PhD and Master’s students while collaborating with the Healthcare Engineering Innovation Group to translate discoveries into diagnostic/therapeutic tools.
