Missouri University of Science and Technologyمعرفی
Dr. Halyna Hodovanets serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Missouri University of Science and Technology, where she joined in January 2022. She leads the Hodovanets Quantum Materials Lab, focusing on experimental discovery and property-tuning of quantum materials through synthesis and characterization.
Her academic foundation includes a Ph.D. from Iowa State University (2014) and an M.S. from Minnesota State University, Mankato (2008).
Dr. Hodovanets' research explores exotic quantum states in condensed matter systems, with emphasis on Dirac/Weyl semimetals, superconductors, and magnetic materials. Her lab investigates how chemical substitution, magnetic fields, and pressure can manipulate electronic behaviors in quantum materials, bridging fundamental physics with potential applications in next-generation electronics and energy technologies.
Her scientific contributions have been recognized through prestigious awards:
- APS Outstanding referee designation (2024)
- NSF LEAPS-MPS research grant (2023)
- Iris Ovshinsky Student Travel Award for Materials Physics (2012)
- SCES 2012 Travel Grant (Busan, South Korea)
- Dr. Glenn and Mrs. Helen Erikson Physics Scholarship (2007-2008)
She actively mentors graduate and undergraduate researchers, including Ph.D. candidate Jayashani (who passed qualifying exams in August 2024) and numerous FYRE/SPARC program students. Her lab's research is supported by competitive grants like the NSF LEAPS-MPS award, enabling cutting-edge instrumentation including a 12 T Oxford Teslatron system.
The Hodovanets Quantum Materials Lab maintains strong outreach initiatives, conducting educational programs at local schools and science centers to demystify quantum materials for K-12 students and the public, while advancing single-crystal synthesis techniques for novel material discovery.
