Hala Kasmo is a Researcher at the University of Namur, affiliated with the Namur Research Institute for Life Sciences and its Research Unit in Biology of Microorganisms. Her work focuses on bacterial metal resistance mechanisms, particularly copper tolerance in Caulobacter crescentus.
- Education: Master in Molecular Microbiology (2021) with a thesis on small RNA and oxygenase roles in copper tolerance.
Research explores bidirectional copper transport, iron-dependent resistance pathways, and the function of TonB-dependent receptors in free-living bacteria. Active projects (2024–2025) investigate the CopA exporter and copper homeostasis. Her 2025 Journal of Bacteriology article highlights oxygenase and receptor interactions in metal resistance.
Engaged in academic outreach, she participated in organizing the Women and Girls in Science conferences (2023–2024) at UNamur. Collaborations span molecular microbiology, environmental adaptation, and sustainable technologies aligning with UN SDGs.
