Hakan Heggernes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen. His research focuses on structural geology, geodynamics, and basin studies, particularly examining deformation bands, fluid flow dynamics, and diagenetic processes in sedimentary rocks. He is affiliated with the Geodynamics and Basin Studies research group.
His work includes analyses of deformation band networks in Jurassic Entrada Sandstone (Utah), fluid flow along basin-bounding faults (e.g., Helmsdale Fault, Scotland), and the interplay between tectonics and geomorphology in arid regions. Recent studies explore spatial variability in rock permeability and connectivity patterns.
Heggernes has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in journals like Journal of Structural Geology and presented at conferences such as the European Meeting of Environmental and Engineering Geophysics. His research integrates field observations, laboratory analysis, and computational modeling to address questions in structural geology and basin evolution.
