Haipeng Luo

Haipeng Luo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), since April 2024. He obtained his B.Sc. (2014) and MSc (2017) in Geodesy from Wuhan University, and PhD (2021) in Geodynamics from University of Victoria, Canada. Prior positions include Research Fellow at Earth Observatory of Singapore (2023.08-2024.04), Research Associate at University of Victoria (2023.01-2023.08), and Postdoctoral Researcher at McGill University (2022).

Research focuses on geodynamic modeling of subduction zones, including mantle rheology, earthquake deformation cycles, and tectonic implications of glacial melting. His work combines geodetic data analysis with numerical simulations to understand crustal deformation mechanisms.

Recent publications in Science (2025), Nature Geoscience (2021), and Journal of Geophysical Research (2022) demonstrate his expertise in subduction zone mechanics and earthquake geodesy. Articles from 2016-2025 cover topics like coseismic slip determination, postseismic relaxation processes, and fluid-rich fault zone dynamics.

Labs/Teams: Leads the SUSTech Earth and Space Sciences research group focused on subduction zone geodynamics and earthquake cycle modeling, actively recruiting PhD/MSc students and postdoctoral researchers.
