Hailin Liao is an Assistant Professor in the School of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Coventry University. He previously held a Lecturer position at Loughborough University from 2004 and obtained his MSc in International Banking and PhD in Economics there. Prior to academia, he worked as an assistant accountant in Chinese banks. His roles include teaching banking and finance modules at all academic levels and supervising research dissertations.

- Doctorate (Economic Growth Productivity and Outward Orientation in East Asian Economies) from Loughborough University (2000–2005)
- MSc in International Banking from Loughborough University (1999–2000)
- BSc in International Trade from Guangdong University of Technology (1990–1994)
His research focuses on innovation and technological change, efficiency analysis, and Economic growth in East Asian economies, with methodological expertise in applied microeconomics and econometric techniques. He has contributed to studies on banking performance, ICT productivity, and spillover effects in manufacturing sectors.
Recent publications (2007–2016) emphasize topics like ICT productivity in the US, banking efficiency across Asian nations, and the role of exports in driving productivity growth in East Asia. His work bridges theoretical econometrics with practical applications in regional economic development.
He has actively participated in conferences such as the All China Economics International Conference and the North American Productivity Workshop, fostering international collaboration. He has also co-supervised four completed PhD projects focusing on banking efficiency and ICT productivity in East Asian contexts.
