Dr. Haichun Sun is a Professor in the College of Education at the University of South Florida, specializing in physical education research and pedagogy since joining the faculty in 2007. She holds a doctoral degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland—College Park, where she also served as coordinator of the Curriculum and Instruction Laboratory.

Her research focuses on motivational dynamics in physical activity settings, particularly examining self-determination theory applications and situational interest mechanisms in children and adolescents. She investigates how different physical education curricula and technology-based interventions (e.g., exergames) influence motivation, knowledge acquisition, and long-term health behaviors.
Recent publications highlight her work in cross-cultural measurement validation, STEM-integrated PE curricula, and digital tools for physical literacy development. Her research spans psychometric testing, program evaluation, and behavioral change strategies across educational and community settings.
Dr. Sun teaches undergraduate courses in class management, ethics, and instructional design, while graduate courses include research analysis, learner assessment, and advanced instructional methods. She has delivered over 50 national/international presentations, contributing extensively to understanding PA motivation and curriculum effectiveness.
