Dr. Hafiz Ahmad serves as a Teaching Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida State University Panama City (FSU PC), where he teaches 8-10 courses annually and coordinates the Master's program. A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Florida, he brings over 12 years of academic experience and prior consulting engineering expertise in civil/environmental project design and hydraulic modeling.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Florida State University (2004)
- M.S. in Civil Engineering, State University of New York at Buffalo (2001)
- M.S. in Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (1998)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (1993)
For over two decades, Dr. Ahmad's research has centered on environmental mitigation technologies, with emphasis on pyrolysis-based bioenergy systems, advanced water/wastewater treatment processes, and soil/groundwater remediation. His work integrates hydraulic-hydrologic modeling with practical applications in stormwater management and sludge-to-resource conversion, particularly focusing on value-added carbon products like biochar.
Securing industry funding from Pyrolysis Tech, LLC. and American Refining Group, he actively mentors Master's students on thesis projects spanning LNAPL remediation, invasive species pyrolysis, activated carbon filtration, and post-hurricane mold remediation. His Panama City-based program addresses regional challenges including wastewater flow dynamics and methane harnessing from sludge processing.
