Haddy Njie is an Associate Teaching Professor in Interdisciplinary Studies at North Carolina State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. A native of The Gambia, she holds a PhD in Sociocultural and International Development Education Studies from Florida State University, an MA in International Studies from Ohio University, and a BA in History from the University of The Gambia.
Her research examines gender and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, with emphases on girls' education, women's uses of literacy, informal economies, and community-based financial systems like Osusu. She serves on the board of Africa Yes, a nonprofit supporting health and education initiatives in Sierra Leone.
Njie's publications analyze educational equity, women's economic strategies, and cultural empowerment frameworks in Gambian communities. Her ethnographic work highlights intersections between gender roles, literacy practices, and household resource management.
