Prof. Dr. Günter Reiter is a Full Professor of Experimental Polymer Physics at the University of Freiburg, Germany, affiliated with the Institute of Physics and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. Born in 1960 in Wels, Austria, he holds a PhD in Nuclear Physics from TU Graz (1987) and habilitation from UHA Mulhouse (1998). His career includes postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, University of Illinois, and CNRS in France before joining Freiburg in 2008.
His research focuses on polymer behavior at interfaces, crystallization dynamics, and molecular self-assembly. Key areas include wetting/dewetting processes, polymer film stability, and hybrid polymer-nanoparticle structures. He has held editorial roles in journals like Polymers and Physical Review Letters, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS).
Reiter's work spans experimental and theoretical studies, with over 150 publications on topics like polymer crystal nucleation, thin film mechanics, and biomimetic materials. His lab explores advanced materials with applications in nanotechnology and functional surfaces. Collaborative projects include biomimetic architecture inspired by snail locomotion and drug delivery systems using shear-sensitive vesicles.
