Günter Gollmann is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Vienna, affiliated with the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Department of Evolutionary Biology. He leads a 25-year long-term study on yellow-bellied toads in the Vienna Woods, focusing on ecology, conservation, and evolutionary processes. His research spans speciation, hybrid zones, dispersal, and life-history variation in amphibians.
He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Herpetozoa (open access journal) and is an editorial board member of Amphibia-Reptilia and Diversity. His teaching includes evolutionary biology and amphibian ecology courses.
Key research interests include amphibian population dynamics, conservation strategies, and the genetic and ecological drivers of speciation. His work bridges theoretical and applied ecology, with a focus on threatened species in Central Europe.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary studies on amphibian longevity, phylogeography of fire-bellied toads, and ecological impacts of transgenic organisms. His contributions to Austrian conservation efforts include compiling red lists for endangered amphibians and reptiles.
He collaborates with the Unit for Theoretical Biology and maintains ties with international researchers in evolutionary and conservation studies.
