Gwyther Rees

Gwyther Rees is Associate Research Fellow and Research Director for the Children's Worlds project at the University of York's School for Business and Society. His research examines child wellbeing through large-scale international surveys and longitudinal studies.

Research focuses on developing comparative measures of child subjective wellbeing, analyzing poverty impacts on development, and evaluating policy interventions for disadvantaged children. The Children's Worlds project encompasses over 100,000 children across 35+ countries, establishing global benchmarks for child wellbeing.

Publications analyze variations in child wellbeing across countries, impacts of family structures, educational inequalities, and pandemic effects on vulnerable children. Recent work examines geographic variations in wellbeing, childcare during crises, and multidimensional poverty measurement.

He advises international organizations including UNICEF and OECD on child wellbeing frameworks while contributing to national monitoring systems and policy development.
