Gwendolyn Beetham (she/they) is the Associate Director of the Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies (GSWS) Program at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a PhD and MSc in Gender Studies from the London School of Economics and a BA from Kenyon College. Her work bridges feminist scholarship and activism, with a focus on
- feminist pedagogy
- sexuality studies
- critical university studies
Her research critically examines assisted reproductive technologies (ART) through a queer lens, analyzing how they intersect with kinship, privilege, and stratified reproduction. She has published on topics like the ethical implications of sperm donor selection, the commodification of life, and the political economy of reproduction. Her recent work includes The Care Crisis at Penn (2022), which addresses institutional challenges in academic labor.
Beetham has been recognized with awards such as the University of Pennsylvania's Models of Excellence Award (2022) and fellowships at the Democratizing Knowledge Project (2017) and Rutgers University's Institute for Research on Women (2015–2016). She actively contributes to editorial boards (e.g., Rejoinder) and grassroots organizations like the Third Wave Fund, advocating for queer and trans communities.
