Guy Webster is a PhD candidate in the Department of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Melbourne's School of Culture and Communication. He serves as a Resident Arts Tutor at St Hilda's College and is Co-Editor of Platform Journal. In 2022, he was Vice-President of the Culture and Communication Graduate Committee (CCGC).
His research centers on Modernism, Affect Theory, and Horror Studies, with specific focus on Virginia Woolf and D.H. Lawrence. His doctoral thesis "Modernist Fear: Affecting Horror in Early 20th Century Modernism" analyzes fear as a socio-political and culturally contingent affect in modernist aesthetics, examining connections to Gothic traditions, Grand Guignol theatre, and post-war male subjectivities through works by Woolf, Lawrence, May Sinclair, and Mary Butts.
Guy actively bridges academic and public discourse as a theatre reviewer for Australian Book Review, Time Out Melbourne, and Limelight Arts Magazine, while his non-fiction essays appear in Overland, Kill Your Darlings, and Metro Magazine. His scholarly publications span Textual Practice, Cambridge Quarterly, and The Conversation, demonstrating consistent engagement with modernist literary studies and cultural criticism.
