Dr Guy Cooper is a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Biology Department, focusing on the origins of division of labor in microbes and major transitions in evolution. With a background in physics and mathematics, his work bridges theoretical models and empirical studies in microbial systems. He investigates how relatedness, group structure, and efficiency drive evolutionary mechanisms of cooperation and specialization.
Research interests include evolutionary biology, microbial ecology, and theoretical modeling of cooperative systems. His work explores phenotypic heterogeneity in microorganisms, the role of kin selection in labor division, and the evolutionary stability of cooperative groups. Articles emphasize the interplay between genetic diversity, environmental pressures, and adaptive strategies in microbial communities.
