معرفی
Gustavo Hormiga is the Ruth Weintraub Professor of Biology at The George Washington University's Columbian College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on systematics, evolutionary biology of spiders, and velvet worms (Onychophora). He leads the NSF-funded PurSUiT project studying Neotropical velvet worms' evolutionary history and Caribbean biogeography. His work combines molecular phylogenetics with anatomical methods to explore biodiversity and conservation of understudied invertebrates.
Research Interests:
- Systematics of spiders and velvet worms
- Evolutionary biology of morphological stasis
- Molecular phylogenetics of arachnids
- Biogeography of tropical invertebrates
- Conservation of endangered species
Notable Projects: Collaborative NSF-funded research on Neotropical velvet worms with Harvard University. Over 50 peer-reviewed articles on spider systematics and evolutionary biology. Active in international taxonomy initiatives.
Lab: Hormiga Lab Webpage located at Lisner Hall 412/Bell Hall 405. Focus areas include arachnid phylogenomics and biodiversity assessment.
