Guoping Hu is an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Western Australia. His research focuses on separation sciences and engineering, particularly gas separations using solvent absorption and solid adsorption, as well as hydrometallurgy involving mineral leaching and solvent extraction. He is also interested in the development of novel sorbents, biocatalysts, carbon dioxide utilization, and clean energy systems. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities, and responsible consumption.
Guoping holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Shandong University, a Master's project from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Melbourne (2014–2018), focusing on promoted carbonated solvents for carbon capture.
His research interests include gas separation techniques such as pressure swing adsorption and solvent absorption, carbon capture technologies, methane enrichment processes, hydrometallurgical methods for mineral leaching and solvent extraction, and the development of sustainable energy solutions through novel sorbents and biocatalysts. He is particularly interested in bio-inspired approaches and carbon dioxide utilization to advance clean energy systems.
