معرفی
Guo-Yue Niu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He has been part of the UA Hydrometeorology Program since 2014 and joined the University of Arizona in 2009 as an Assistant Research Professor. His research focuses on hydrometeorology, ecohydrology, and land surface modeling, with expertise in Earth system models and remote sensing applications.
Education: Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1996), M.S. in Atmospheric Physics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Lanzhou, 1996). Prior to his current position, he held roles at the University of Texas at Austin (2001–2009) and the University of Arizona (1998–2001).
Research Interests: Development of process-based models for global-scale Earth systems, impacts of climate change on ecohydrological processes, land surface modeling, and integration of remote sensing data into hydrological models. His work emphasizes improving representations of plant hydraulics, soil processes, and snow dynamics in models like Noah-MP.
Publications: Over 120 peer-reviewed articles, including key contributions to snowpack prediction, terrestrial water storage dynamics, and microbial soil organic carbon modeling. Recent work explores machine learning applications for snow dynamics and soil moisture memory processes.
Awards: CCSM Distinguished Achievement Award (2008), Xuedu Fengzheng Best Dissertation Award (1996). Active in academic service, including leadership roles in the Noah-MP land surface modeling community.
Teaching: Courses in hydroclimatology, physical climatology, and Earth system science, including Hydroclimatology (ATMO/HWRS 524) and Earth: Our Watery Home (HWRS 170A1).
