Gunther Eggeler

Professor Gunther Eggeler is a faculty member at Ruhr University Bochum, where he leads the Chair of Materials Science within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on advanced materials with applications in high-temperature engineering systems.

Professor Eggeler's primary research interests include shape memory alloys (particularly NiTi-based systems), creep behavior of materials, martensitic transformations, and thermal barrier coatings. His work bridges fundamental materials science with practical engineering applications, especially in aerospace components that operate under extreme conditions.

His extensive research portfolio consists of numerous projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), covering functional and structural fatigue of shape memory actuators, water vapor effects on thermal barrier coatings, and creep behavior of various alloys at elevated temperatures. These projects reveal a consistent focus on understanding material behavior under mechanical and thermal stress.
