Gunnar Isacsson is an Adjunct Professor of Economics at Örebro University since 2022, concurrently affiliated with the Swedish Transport Administration. Previously, he served as Associate Professor of Economics at Dalarna University starting in 2008 and earned his PhD in Economics from Stockholm University in 1999 with the thesis Essays on the Twins Approach in Empirical Labor Economics.
His research centers on methodological innovations in transport economics and labor markets, specializing in socio-economic valuation techniques. Key contributions include developing time values (quantifying time-money tradeoffs in infrastructure decisions), analyzing societal costs of traffic accidents, and modeling transport infrastructure's impact on housing markets. His work critically examines whether conventional cost-benefit analyses capture full societal benefits of transport projects or require expansion into cross-sectoral effects like labor market dynamics.
At the Swedish Transport Administration, Isacsson conducts applied policy analyses for high-speed rail, climate initiatives, and infrastructure-housing-labor market interdependencies. His research directly informs Sweden's SEK 799 billion infrastructure budget (2022–2033), fulfilling Riksdag-mandated socio-economic efficiency requirements for transport policy decisions. By integrating labor market behavior studies with transport valuation, he bridges theoretical economics and real-world infrastructure planning.
