Gunhild Odden

Gunhild Odden is a researcher and director at the Center for Intercultural Communication since 2015. Her work focuses on migration, intercultural relations, and transnational spaces, with a specific emphasis on how migrants shape urban environments and engage in cross-border economic activities.

Her research includes studies on Afghan and Polish families in the Norwegian welfare state, conflict management among minority families, and comparative analyses of Polish migrants in Norway, Sweden, and the UK. She authored the textbook International Migration. A Social Science Introduction (2018) and led the NFR-funded project Doing Family across Borders (2016-2019).

Gunhild employs social anthropological methods, including long-term fieldwork, interviews, and observation, to explore migration dynamics and cultural intersections.
