Gundolf Wieching

Dr. Gundolf Wieching serves as Division Head of the Electronics division at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR) in Bonn, Germany, a premier institution within the Max Planck Society dedicated to cutting-edge radio astronomy research. His leadership oversees the development and maintenance of critical electronic systems for radio telescopes including the 100-meter Effelsberg telescope and international projects like ALMA.

His research focuses on advanced electronics for astronomical instrumentation, specializing in low-noise amplifier design, high-precision signal processing, and millimeter-wave technology. This work enables detection of faint cosmic signals across molecular astrophysics, pulsar studies, and cosmological observations, requiring exceptional engineering innovation to overcome thermal and quantum noise limitations in telescope receivers.
