Guillaume de Syon is a Professor of History at Albright College (Reading, PA), where he has served since 1995, progressing from Assistant to Associate Professor before becoming full Professor in 2009. He holds visiting roles at Sciences Po, Paris (2019) and Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, PA). His academic career includes research consultancy for the Collected Papers of Albert Einstein (1994–2000) and series editorship for the 'Moving Through History' book series (2004–2009).
De Syon earned a Ph.D. in Modern European History from Boston University (1994), an M.A. in International Affairs (George Washington University, 1989), and a B.A. in Political Science and German Literature from Tufts University (1987). Additional studies include a law/trade certificate from East China Normal University (1986) and Swiss matriculation from Institut Florimont (1983).
His research focuses on Modern Germany, France, aviation history, and European popular culture. Notable works include Zeppelin!: Germany and the Airship, 1900-1939 (2002) and Science and Technology in Modern European Life (2008). Recent scholarship analyzes aviation safety standards, space travel imagery in comics, and wartime aviation culture. His work bridges technological innovation, cultural narratives, and historical memory.
