معرفی
Dr. Guilherme Corte is an Assistant Professor in the Marine Biology Department at Texas A&M University at Galveston, where he leads the Benthic Ecology Lab. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of the Virgin Islands (2023-2024), and held research positions at the Institute of Marine Research Admiral Paulo Moreira (Brazilian Navy), University of São Paulo, State University of Campinas, and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center.
Dr. Corte's educational background includes:
- PhD in Ecology from the State University of Campinas, Brazil (2016)
- Master's in Ecology from the State University of Campinas, Brazil (2011)
- Bachelor's in Ecology from the State University of Campinas, Brazil (2008)
His primary research interests focus on benthic ecology, climate and human impacts on marine ecosystems, biodiversity assessment, and environmental monitoring. Dr. Corte's work emphasizes understanding how marine benthic organisms interact with their environments, particularly in sandy beach ecosystems, mangroves, and coastal areas. He investigates how environmental changes and human activities affect biodiversity patterns and ecosystem functioning, with applications for conservation and management.
Dr. Corte has published extensively on topics related to benthic ecology, with a particular focus on Brazilian coastal ecosystems. His research employs fieldwork, experimental approaches, and data analysis to address fundamental and applied questions in marine science. He has participated in numerous research expeditions, accumulating over 1,300 hours at sea.
Among his notable contributions is the co-authorship of the book "Brazilian Sandy Beaches" published by Springer. His work has appeared in prestigious journals including Frontiers in Marine Science, Science of The Total Environment, Marine Pollution Bulletin, and Diversity and Distributions.
Dr. Corte is committed to mentoring the next generation of marine scientists. Current lab members include:
- Hannah Ferraro (Graduate Student) - researching effects of disturbance events on seagrass carbon storage
- Rob Racette (Undergraduate Student) - studying tar ball colonization by barnacles
He teaches courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including Modern Concepts of Ecology, Evolution, Marine Ecology, Scientific Writing, and Natural Resource Management. Dr. Corte emphasizes hands-on learning and fieldwork in his teaching approach, reflecting his belief that direct engagement with marine environments is essential for understanding ecological processes.
