He earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Minnesota in 2002 and became a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge in 2009.

Professor Carmona has published extensively in top-tier economics journals and authored the book Existence and Stability of Nash Equilibrium (World Scientific, 2013).
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on game-theoretic models in large markets, particularly examining stable matchings, strategic behavior in incomplete information settings, and the properties of Nash equilibria in various game structures. Much of his recent work (2020-2025) has been in collaboration with Krittanai Laohakunakorn and Konrad Podczeck, producing significant contributions to matching theory, monopoly pricing, and equilibrium analysis in large games.
Professor Carmona maintains an active research agenda with publications appearing in leading journals including Journal of Economic Theory, Economic Theory, Journal of Political Economy, and Theoretical Economics.
