Gudrun Zagel

Gudrun Zagel is an Assistant Professor at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, affiliated with the Department of International Law, European Law, and Fundamentals of Law. Her academic qualifications include a Mag. iur, Dr. iur, and LL.M. (Austin). She actively contributes to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of law, sustainability, and global governance.

Research Focus: Her work centers on European Union legal frameworks, with emphasis on:

• International investment agreements and their alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• EU mechanisms for climate finance and banking regulation under the Paris Agreement
• Legal instruments for counter-terrorism and restrictive measures (e.g., Articles 75/215 TFEU)

Projects & Leadership: She manages the project IIASDG (2021-2022) examining investment treaties in Nigeria, and collaborates on POLYCIVIS, an Afro-European sustainability initiative. Her recent publications (2023) predominantly analyze EU legislative commentary and climate finance governance.

Engagement: As a member of Scientists4Future Salzburg, she advocates for science-based climate policy and interdisciplinary solutions to polycrisis challenges.
