Gudrun Styhler-Aydın is a Research Fellow and Group Leader of the 'Historical Building Research' team at the Austrian Archaeological Institute (OeAI) in Vienna. She holds dual qualifications in Architecture (TU Berlin) and Civil Engineering (Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences). Her career includes 11 years as a university assistant at TU Wien's Institute of Art History and Building Archaeology, and prior work on Ephesus theater excavations at the OeAW. She specializes in architectural history, building archaeology, and innovative digital methods for heritage preservation.
Research Focus: Historical building techniques, archaeological landscapes, and cultural heritage studies. Projects span Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia, Tunisia, and Austria, including Ephesus theater structural analysis and Byzantine fortifications. She innovates digital tools like 3D laser scanning for heritage documentation.
Professional Roles: External lecturer at TU Wien, project manager for international excavations, and member of expert committees. Her work bridges engineering, archaeology, and architecture through interdisciplinary approaches.
