Guangwei Zhang

Dr. Guangwei Zhang is Assistant Professor of Research in Physiology and Neuroscience at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. His research investigates neural circuits underlying behavior, sensory processing, and neuropsychiatric conditions.

Research focuses on neural mechanisms of stress-induced behaviors, sensory-motor integration, and emotional processing. Specific interests include medial preoptic area function in anxiety and depression, pontine central gray circuitry in behavioral valence, and neural basis of prosocial behaviors.

Publications examine brain mechanisms of emotional states and social behaviors, with recent work on neural circuit dysfunction in depression models and rodent prosocial responses. Research utilizes advanced techniques including optogenetics and neural circuit mapping.

Dr. Zhang collaborates with the laboratory of Dr. Li Zhang at USC on neural circuit mechanisms of behavior.
