Grete Synøve Botten is a Professor in the Department of Health Management and Health Economics at the University of Oslo. She holds a Cand.med. (1969), Dr. med. (1979) in nutrition from Oslo University, and an MPH from Harvard School of Public Health (1986). Her academic roles include Program Manager for the bachelor's program in health management and health economics since 2011, and former Head of the Department of HELSAM (2010), HELED (2004-09), and the Center for Health Administration (1995-2004). She has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Nordic School of Public Health (1990-93) and has held leadership positions in medical education and policy.
Her research focuses on health economics, healthcare quality, and community medicine, with emphasis on policy analysis, healthcare prioritization, and cross-cultural healthcare challenges. Notable contributions include studies on cesarean delivery preferences, microfinance integration with healthcare, and quality improvement in long-term care. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, contributing to journals like Scandinavian Journal of Public Health, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and International Journal for Quality in Health Care.
Botten is a member of the board of Akershus University Hospital and the research committee for Vestre Viken Hospital. Her work bridges clinical practice, policy, and academic research, addressing systemic challenges in healthcare delivery and equity.
