Dr. Gregory Thompson is an Associate Professor of Linguistic Anthropology at Brigham Young University. His research examines pedagogical interactions through ethnographic studies in diverse educational settings, including South Chicago tutoring programs, Provo elementary schools, and Seoul classrooms. He teaches ethnographic research methods and linguistic anthropology.
His research interests focus on:
- Processes of learning in human interactions
- Classroom discourse and stance-taking
- Cross-cultural educational practices
- Language socialization in academic contexts
- Critical analysis of academic language
Recent publications explore academic language ideologies, dialogic pedagogy, cross-cultural healthcare communication, and ethnographic research methods. His 2025 work examines religious visual experiences through phenomenological approaches.
