Gregory Lee is a University Professor at Jean Moulin University Lyon 3, currently on secondment to the University of St Andrews. Affiliated with the Faculty of Languages, he directs the trilingual journal Transtext(e)s-Transcultures and previously led the Institute of Transtextual and Transcultural Studies (IETT) as Director of its Reception Team (EA4186). His administrative legacy includes former roles as President of the College of Experts (Section 15), 1st Vice-President for research, and Director of the Research Department.
Lee's research interrogates Chinese Studies through transcultural lenses, emphasizing literature, cultural history, and postcolonial theory. He explores Chineseness, marginal cultures, popular culture, critical theory, diasporic memory, crossbreeding, and cosmopolitanism—focusing on identity formation in diasporic and hybrid cultural contexts. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical studies of transcultural exchange and memory politics.
Without authorization to direct research (HDR) in the French system, Lee cannot supervise PhD theses, though his editorial leadership at Transtext(e)s-Transcultures shapes scholarly discourse. He remains embedded in IETT's ecosystem as a former director of its EA4186 research team, contributing to institutional infrastructure for transtextual studies while advancing his research agenda through university platforms.
