Gregory Jerkiewicz

Gregory Jerkiewicz is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Queen's University, within the Faculty of Arts and Science. His research focuses on surface and materials electrochemistry, with particular emphasis on hydrogen storage, electrocatalytic processes, and biocompatible materials. He holds cross-appointments within the university and has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Electrochemistry Award of the Société Française de Chimie (1997) and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2012).

Education: Gregory earned a dual Master's degree in Chemical Engineering-Engineering Chemistry from Gdańsk University of Technology (1984) and a Doctorate from the University of Ottawa (1991), supervised by Prof. Brian E. Conway. His career includes roles at Université de Sherbrooke and Queen's University, where he has held tenured positions since 2002.

Research Interests: His work spans electrochemical hydrogen adsorption, thin film deposition for microelectronics, corrosion of metals, and biocompatible titanium-based implants. He has pioneered studies on platinum electrochemistry and the electrochemical quartz-crystal nanobalance (EQCN) technique, contributing to advancements in fuel cell technologies and electrocatalysis.

Publications & Recognition: With over 117 peer-reviewed publications and 150 invited lectures, his contributions to electrochemistry are substantial. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Electrocatalysis and has advised numerous conferences and professional societies, including the Electrochemical Society and Canadian Society for Chemistry.
