Dr. Gregory Ioannidis is an Associate Professor and Course Leader at the Sheffield Institute of Law and Justice, part of the College of Social Sciences and Arts at Sheffield Hallam University. He joined the university in January 2014 and developed the online LLM International Sports Law in Practice program. His roles include training students in mooting, advocacy, and negotiation.
He holds qualifications including LLB, LLM, PhD, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). With 23 years of expertise, he specializes in international sports law and arbitration, representing clients before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and FIFA’s Football Tribunal. Notable cases include the Greek Sprinters case (Kenteris and Thanou), the Caster Semenya matter for the South African track & field federation, and representation of Dillian Whyte and Mu-yen Chu.
- Research focuses on anti-doping whistleblowing (IMPACT Project) and judicial precedent systems in CAS.
- Editor of International Sports Law Review (London) and Sport & Law (Athens).
He has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Most Influential Sports Lawyers globally (2009) and contributed to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games pro bono mentoring team (2020). His media engagements include regular appearances on Sky News and BBC News discussing anti-doping and sports law issues.
