Gregory Brown

Gregory Brown is the Van and Kay Weatherspoon Distinguished Professor of Finance at the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School. His research focuses on alternative investments, including hedge funds and private equity, financial risk management, and derivatives. He founded the Institute for Private Capital and serves on the board of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association.

Dr. Brown holds a PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin and a BS in physics and economics from Duke University. His research, published in top journals like The Journal of Finance and Journal of Financial Economics, addresses market volatility, private equity dynamics, and institutional investing. Recent work explores hedge fund allocation, inflation hedging, and stakeholder capitalism metrics.

Brown's scientific contributions earned him the Van and Kay Weatherspoon Distinguished Professorship. As faculty director of the Hodges Scholars Program and former executive director of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise (2015-2023), he actively shapes finance education and industry collaboration.
