Gregor Schubert is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he joined the faculty in 2021. His academic appointment sits within the Finance Department of the prestigious Anderson School, one of the leading business schools in the United States.
Dr. Schubert earned his Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University in 2021, following an M.S. in Economics and Finance from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2014) and an A.B. in Economics, summa cum laude, from Princeton University (2011), where he also minored in theater.
Schubert's research program spans corporate finance, housing finance, labor economics, real estate, and urban economics. His innovative work examines how urban migration networks affect housing markets, particularly how house price growth varies during national boom and bust cycles due to population movements between metropolitan areas. He has demonstrated that housing market shocks spill over more to better-connected metropolitan areas. In labor economics, he has pioneered research on employer concentration effects on wages, showing that the impact is significantly stronger for workers in occupations with limited mobility options.
His scholarly output includes influential working papers such as 'House Price Contagion and U.S. City Migration Networks' and 'Employer Concentration and Outside Options,' alongside several featured articles in the UCLA Anderson Review covering topics like AI's impact on finance research, housing market dynamics, and labor market effects of automation. His publications consistently bridge theoretical insights with real-world market applications.
Before entering academia, Schubert worked as a strategy consultant across multiple sectors including banking and financial services, industrial and consumer goods, and healthcare, providing him with practical industry experience that informs his research perspective.
Dr. Schubert brings an unconventional approach to teaching, drawing on his theater background from Princeton to frame classroom instruction as a performance. He aims to inspire students to think critically about housing markets in terms of fundamental human decisions about where and why we live.
